Questions
Lawn Mowing FAQ
Updated October 24, 2026
How high should I mow my lawn in Vermont?
About 3 inches or higher. UVM Extension recommends 3 to 4 inches through spring and summer, then lowering the deck gradually in fall so the final mow is about 2 to 2½ inches. Taller grass shades out weeds and handles dry spells better.
How often should a lawn be mowed in Vermont?
Most Vermont lawns do best with a mow every week in May and June, when grass grows fastest, and every one to two weeks in mid-summer and fall. The rule of thumb is never to cut more than a third of the blade at once.
Do you bag clippings or leave them?
Leaving clippings on the lawn returns nutrients to the soil and doesn't cause thatch. If you'd rather have them bagged and removed, tell us when you ask for a quote.
Do you mow one time, or only on a schedule?
Call or text (802) 503-4865 and tell us what you need. We'll let you know what fits our route.
